2009 SAN JUAN 21 WESTERN NATIONALS

SAILING CHAMPIONSHIP

1 MANAGEMENT

1.1 The San Juan 21 Fleet 1 Regatta Committee shall be The Organizing Authority. This Committee shall have the

authority to accept, reject or rescind any boat entry prior to the start of the first race, and interpret the rules

and conditions of the race.

2 RULES

2.1 This regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2009-2012, the Prescriptions of US Sailing

Association: The Rules of the participating San Juan 21 Class, the Notice of Regatta (except as modified by

the Sailing Instructions), and by the Sailing Instructions.

3 ADVERTISING

3.1 Advertising will be restricted to Category A.

4 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

4.1 Only San Juan 21one-design boats are invited to participate. San Juan 21 boats with fixed keels are invited to race in a separate class. This event is open to all members in good standing with the San Juan 21 Class Association. Class Association dues must be paid in full for the year and not later than seven days prior to the first race of the Nationals. Skippers that did not own a San Juan 21 by that date may petition the Executive Committee as set forth in the Class Handbook. You are strongly urged to pre-register.

4.2 Allocation of entrants into spinnaker and non-Spinnaker fleets shall be the responsibility of the Regatta Committee. These allocations must be submitted to the Race Committee no later then 11:00AM prior to Race 1. All entrants not declaring Spinnaker or non-Spinnaker Fleet will be assumed to be Spinnaker Fleet. No changes will be made thereafter.

4.3 Sails that have not been previously certified must be measured and certified prior to the first race.

4.4 All yachts are subject to measurement as defined by the class association specifications. Yachts not meeting

the requirements are subject to disqualification.

5 FEES

5.1 Entry fees are $100.00 for entries postmarked prior to July 1st. A late fee of $10.00 will apply to all entries postmarked July 1st or later. Return entry forms with check made payable to: San Juan 21 – Fleet 1. Mail entries to Andy Caples, 3923 40th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116. Registration deadline is 11:00 AM prior to Race 1. 12:00 Noon 1st Warning Signal

7:00pm Dinner/ Raffle / Awards Presentation on the yacht clubhouse deck

7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

7.1 The Sailing Instructions will be supplied with the registration packet upon skipper Check-in.

7.2 Preliminary Sailing instructions will be available at the regatta website on or before July 1st.

7.3 The Organizing Authorities reserve the right to amend versions of the Sailing Instructions.

8 VENUE

8.1 The racing area shall be the main body of water off of the Brownsville Marina boat ramp.

9 THE COURSES

9.1 The course will be Random leg Courses, selected from those published in the Sailing Instructions.

10 SCORING

10.1 Five (5) races are scheduled, of which one (1) must be completed to constitute a series.

10.2 The regatta will be scored as provided in the San Juan 21 class handbook. Revised January, 2006. This

changes RRS Appendix A

11 LAUNCHING AND GUEST MOORAGE

11.1 A group rate for launching and guest moorage is included in the entry fee.

12 PRIZES

12.1 Trophies will be awarded based on class registration.

13 DISCLAIMER OF LIABLITY

13.1 Notice is hereby given that all competitors (including spectators, officials, and others) participate in this

event solely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. It is the sole responsibility of the skipper of each

yacht to decide whether or not to start or continue any race. The organizing authority will not accept any

liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or

after the regatta.

14 INSURANCE

14.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance.

15 AMENDMENTS TO THIS NOTICE

15.1 The Organizing Authorities reserve the right to amend this notice. All amendments made after July 1, 2007 will be posted on the Official Notice Board, located at the yacht clubhouse deck. Copies will be available.
