Muskrat #2457

Skipper/Crew:

Skipper – Oscar Barney  Crew – John & Lorna Barney

San Juan History

John & Lorna have been sailing SJ21s since 1993 and are active racers with fleet #43 and the Coos Bay Yacht Club.

National Results:

Muskrat placed 3rd in the very, very, competitive Working Sails division of the 2008 Western Nationals.  Muskrat was always with the lead boats and put up consecutive 2nd place finishes on the first two races of the first day.  2008 was no fluke the Barneys have been doing this for a while and they have a plethora of top ten finishes at National events.

Often Heard Aboard:

“Don’t worry Dad, we can make it up”  (And they usually do!)

Cocktail of choice:

Water… Neat… With a Splash!

Other Notes:

Last year Oscar was living in  Tuebingen  Germany but flew half way around the world to sail San Juan 21s at Nationals time.  He was also a standout colligate sailor with Hobart College, battling powerhouses like Stanford, Dartmouth, & Harvard for national ranking and titles. Fast, crafty, and consistent are the best words to describe Muskrat and there is much to be learned from simply following them around the course.
