BelleFast #1835

Skipper – Jon Richards (aka the Godfather)  Crew – Kathy Richards

San Juan History

Jon & Kathy started sailing SJ21s in 1994 and purchased BelleFast that same year from another member of the CBYC.  The boat has been a member of the racing fleet in CBYC since she was born.

National Results:

Clearly in the list of favorites for 2009… Jon & Kathy are Western National Champion from Klamath Lake in 2006, and placed 3rd at the North Americans in Huntington Lake 2007.  At the 2008 Western Nationals in Coos Bay BelleFast came in 9th overall in the 25 boat working sails group.

Often Heard Aboard:

"Kathy, quit day-dreaming!"

Cocktail of choice:

There has not been a cocktail served on BelleFast since NAFTA went into effect.  Jon & Kathy never drink on the boat as part of their strict San Juan 21 Exercise regime which you can read in their best selling book “How I lost 18oz. in 30 days Sailing a SJ21… and YOU CAN TOO!”  Off the boat is a different story all together.

Other Notes:

There were 2,600+ SJ21s produced by the Clark Boat co. between 1970 & 1985.  If there are 2,000 still actively sailing in the Western US then 1,835 of them are likely to owe Jon “The Godfather” Richards a favor.  Jon takes the long view and is willing to give today in order to collect with interest tomorrow.  Last year he loaned me a Kerr jib for the final day of racing (which was the difference in the headed battle to avoid coming in last place).  This year if he orders me to take you out, I’m going to do it.  Just remember it’s nothing personal…  it’s just business.  The Godfathers secret weapon however is not his many calls, it is Wesson Oil...
