Big Events Coming Up This Fall!

posted Jul 16, 2019, 11:09 PM by Kris Barker   [ updated Jul 16, 2019, 11:11 PM ]

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer and hopefully getting their boats out on the water. This is typically the time of year we take a break from racing and get some cruising and day sailing in. It’s also time to start thinking about a couple of big upcoming events.

WESTERN NATIONALS - September 5 - 7
This years Western Nationals are being held Lake Chelan. Those that have sailed in the Chelan Regatta over the years already know how fun it is to sail over there and this year it should be even better. Not only do you get to sail in the nationals but the regular Chelan Regatta on Sept 7 and 8 as well. Typically there are between 6 - 10 SJ21s; this year with the nationals, there could be up to 30!

Don’t be intimidated by the name of this event, yes there’s racing, but it’s also a great time to met other sailors that are a part of this great SJ21 family and confirm why we all love these boats so much. Here’s the link to registration. Start finalizing your plans, it would be awesome to have a big Fleet 1 showing.

“THE GENE” Adams Memorial Regatta - September 20 - 22
This will be the 2nd year for this annual event honoring our friend and fellow sailor Gene Adams. The inaugural event last year was a great success and we hope it’s even bigger this year. We’ll have more on the this one including the NOR out sometime in August.

If you have questions on either event shoot one of us a note (see Fleet 1 Information) or give someone a call and we'll do our best to convince you you’d be crazy to miss either one of these events!

Next Up - Milltown Spring Regatta, Everett Marina

posted Apr 17, 2019, 9:54 PM by Kris Barker   [ updated Apr 17, 2019, 9:56 PM ]

Our first road warrior race of the season is this Saturday in Everett. They've made a late time change (presumably to give us a bit more sleep :-).

The skippers meeting is now at 10AM with first race at noon. The early forecast is mostly sunny with winds around 10kts. If that holds it should be some pretty sweet sailing ... and a great way to show the rest of the competition what our boats can do.

Let's make a great showing!

Spring #3 - Saturday April 6th *** CANCELLED ***

posted Mar 31, 2019, 12:25 PM by Kris Barker   [ updated Apr 5, 2019, 7:25 PM ]

Friday April 5th update
We are cancelling tomorrow's Spring #3 due to predicted very high winds.

We had amazing weather at Spring #2 - fairly light winds but enough to make for good sailing. The course was short enough to get 6 races in, all 30-45 minutes long. We had light turnout again though - just 3 working sails and 2 spinnaker boats. If you haven't been out yet this year, you don't know what you are missing!

Race results and current standings are available at Race Scoring and ReportsOur next race is Saturday the 6th, again at Coulon, with first start at noon. The more the merrier (and the better the racing) ...hope to see you there!

Spring #2 - Saturday March 23

posted Mar 19, 2019, 11:31 AM by Kris Barker

Spring #2 is this weekend, 3/23 with first start at noon. Spring #1 turnout was pretty light - hopefully we'll see more boats this weekend. Weather shows it cooling off a bit with a chance of some rain but it's really a bit early to know for sure. We've had great turnout at fleet meetings recently - now we just need to start seeing all those boats out racing!

Inaugural 2018 Gene Adams Memorial Regatta

posted Oct 9, 2018, 5:08 PM by Kris Barker   [ updated Oct 11, 2018, 3:00 PM ]

The weekend of September 28-30, 2018 a group of San Juan 21 sailors from Fleet 1 and beyond gathered together at the Des Moinse Marina for a some racing, some partying, some story telling, and to pay tribute to our friend and mentor Gene Adams. It was a truly fantastic event with a solid 11 boat turnout including Fleet 1 regulars (and not-so-regulars) as well as visitors from eastern Washington and Canada. Gene's family was represented by his widow Liz and son Chris who brought and raced Gene's venerable PGS Juan.

At the close of the event we awarded both the new Gene Adams Memorial Regatta perpetual trophies as well as trophies for the San Juan 21 Northwest Championship in both Working Sails and All Sails classes. It was a great inaugural regatta sure to become an annual event not to be missed!

Check the Events Calendar for all the details. And make sure you get your entry for the Gene Adams Regatta in SOON so we know how many boats/people to expect.

Mark Your Calendars! The Inaugural San Juan 21 Gene Adams Memorial Regatta

posted Jul 31, 2018, 12:24 PM by Kris Barker   [ updated Jul 31, 2018, 12:26 PM ]

Seattle San Juan 21 Fleet One would like to announce the first of what we hope will become an annual must-attend event for all San Juan 21 sailors,  our inaugural San Juan 21 Gene Adams Memorial Regatta, Sept 29-30, 2018 at the marina in Des Moines, WA.

Back in April 2015 the San Juan 21 community lost a treasured friend and fellow sailor. At that time Fleet One made a commitment to honor Gene by coming up with something special. We know of no better way than to host a regatta in his name.  We want to make it an event that Gene would be proud of so plan on it being a special weekend filled with socializing, eating, drinking… plenty of stories, plus some fun racing thrown in.  Gene was always welcoming to new sailors so if you’re new to the sport he’d want you to come join in the fun, meet some new friends and see what our little boats are all about.

See the attached NOR for all the details and don't hesitate to email any of the fleet officers (see Fleet 1 Information) with any questions. Let’s make this regatta one to remember!

Next time you hear "snow", don't you believe it!

For those spooked by rumors of the white stuff, you missed an exceptional day of sailing at Coulon: mostly sunny, steady 10+/- kt winds, and nary a drop or a flake. Unfortunately, turnout was also exceptional ... exceptionally light, that is.

Working sails was represented by Doug; Stephen (and yours truly) along with a partial day appearance by Christian (and family) made up the spinnaker fleet. Wind was perfect to get lots of racing in. We started right at noon and finished up just after 3 completing 6 races in all. It sure was fun zipping along at 4 - 5.5 knots all day.

Next up we are back at Coulon on April 7th. Don't miss out!
